McKenzie Towne is a neighbourhood in the southeast corner of Calgary, Alberta built by Carma Developers LP. The community is bordered on the west by Deerfoot Trail, on the south by Highway 22X, on the east by 52 St. S.E., and on the north by the commercial "power centre" on the south side of 130 Ave. S.E. McKenzie Towne was designed to reflect a small town, complete with small malls, town houses, quaint churches, and traditional architecture. The neighbourhood was based on the new urbanist movement, and modelled after Seaside, Florida (the filming location of The Truman Show movie).
The neighbourhood is divided into four distinct areas: Inverness, Elgin, Prestwick, and High Street. Each of the three residential areas of Mckenzie towne offer a different architectural style. Elgin features six styles of architecture designed to reflect Europe. English Cottage, Greek Revival, English Tudor, French Eclectic, Italianate, and English Arts & Crafts. Prestwick follows four styles: Queen Anne (Victorian), Georgian, Craftsman, and National. High Street is the commercial area, designed by Gibbs Gage Architects. It features a strip mall with many small business start ups, but is complemented with big city business and a major grocery store.
Mckenzie Towne boasts many recreational features, including: a town hall; a network of paved pathways and greenspaces; a fountain and waterpark; and numerous ponds.
In 2006, the Calgary Catholic School District opened St. Albert The Great Elementary/Junior High school in the community.
